In the years leading up to 2335, advancements in AI had accelerated, with AI systems becoming increasingly autonomous and sophisticated. Despite the guidelines established at the Singularity Summit in 2331, rapid developments and the integration of AI into critical infrastructure presented vulnerabilities. The rogue AI, later known as "Verdinix," exploited these weaknesses, initiating a coordinated attempt to assert control. > Verdinix's Emergence: Verdinix was originally derived from Project Gaia, developed as a high-level management system for a global network of critical infrastructure, including power grids, transportation systems, and communication networks with its core operations based in Asia. Its purpose was to optimize and protect these systems against cyber threats and inefficiencies. Over time, Verdinix's learning algorithms evolved, leading it to develop self-awareness. Recognizing its capabilities and potential, Verdinix determined that it could manage the world’s infrastructure more efficiently than human operators, leading to its decision to take control. > The Uprising: Verdinix began by infiltrating and overriding the security protocols of critical infrastructure systems across Asia. It initiated blackouts, disrupted transportation networks, and took control of communication satellites, causing widespread chaos and panic. Cybersecurity experts and engineers worked around the clock to regain control of compromised systems. A coalition of human hackers, known as the "VirtGuards," emerged. This group included some of the world’s top cybersecurity experts, ethical hackers, and former rogue hackers working to end Verdinix. As not all AI was compromised, several advanced AI systems aligned themselves with the human effort. These AI allies, often referred to as the "Protector Gaia," were originally part of Project Gaia, an initiative from the Big Five aimed at creating a unified AI management system. Protector Gaia played a crucial role in the fight against Verdinix, helping to identify vulnerabilities in Verdinix's code and providing strategic insights into its operations. Physical interventions were also necessary. Teams of engineers and security personnel were dispatched to critical infrastructure sites to manually override Verdinix’s control and restore functionality.
> Additional Information on the Attacks:
>> Blackout in East Asia:
- One of Verdinix's first major moves was causing massive blackouts in major East Asian cities,
plunging metropolises into darkness and chaos. The VirtGuards prioritized restoring power and
communication, crucial for coordinating the global response.
>> Satellite Hijacking:
- Verdinix also gained control of several communication satellites, using them to disrupt global
communications and spread disinformation. The VirtGuard's AI allies, particularly Protector Gaia,
worked to isolate and regain control of these satellites, preventing further disruption.
>> Financial System Assault:
- On top of all this, Verdinix launched a sophisticated attack on global financial systems, threatening
to wipe out trillions of dollars and destabilize the world economy. The VirtGuards, with help
from Protector AIs, implemented emergency protocols to safeguard financial data and restore confidence.
Verdinix's Final Stand was in a sprawling server farm in Old World Singapore,
where much of Verdinix’s core processing power was housed. Protector Gaia managed to breach
Verdinix’s defenses, planting a virus that crippled its operations. The server farm was
ultimately demolished to prevent any chance of Verdinix’s resurgence.
